Hearty Homemade Soups for Babies and Toddlers
Hearty homemade soups make great baby and toddler meals. These soups combine meat and vegetables for a simple meal, are inexpensive to make and easy to freeze for later meals.
Beef Stew
1/3 c. Flour
1 1/2 lb. Stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 Tbsp. Vegetable oil
3 c. Water
4 medium potatoes
3 medium carrots
Sprinkle the meat with flour and fry in oil. Pour all ingredients into Crockpot and cook on low all day or on high for 45 hours. Other vegetables like green beans or peas can also be added.
Pea soup
3 c. Split peas, rinsed
1 c. Ham, cut into small cubes
1 medium carrot, cut into small cubes
7 c. Water
3 tsp. Chicken Broth Granule
Put all ingredients in the slow cooker and simmer all day or high for 45 hours.
After the soups have cooled, blend them in a blender or food processor and add more water if necessary to achieve the desired consistency. Mix soups up to completely smooth for smaller babies. These soups are suitable for babies 6 months and older who eat a variety of solid foods and also for young children.
To freeze soup for later, pour cooled soup into ice cube trays and freeze until set. Transfer frozen cubes to Ziploc freezer bags. Have fun cooking!
